DAMASCUS,(ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Minister underscores that Syria is confronting armed terrorist groups that seek to destabilize Syria, saying :”some of these groups’ members have sneaked into Syria through borders and they affiliate to extremist organizations.”
Walid al-Mouallem’s remark came during a meeting with the Iranian parliamentary delegation headed by, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of Foreign Policy Committee and National Security of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.
Al-Mouallem told Boroujerdi that the Syrian people adhere to national unity, reject all forms of foreign meddling and back the political plan outlined by President Bashar al-Assad to resolve the crisis in Syria.
He briefed the Iranian official, who is Head of Iran-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Group, on what have been achieved to implement the plan.
“Reform can be realized only through national dialogue among all social and political parties that believe in Syria’s unity, independence and sovereignty and reject both violence and foreign meddling,” al-Mouallem said.
He thanked Iran’s leadership and people for supporting Syria, adding: “Syria is working to continue enhancing and reactivating economic and investment ties with Iran in all sectors.”
Boroujerdi: Syria to come out of crisis stronger
For his part, Boroujerdi asserted his country’s support for President al-Assad’s efforts to confront aggressive foreign policies, saying: “the Iranian parliamentary delegation’s visit comes within the framework of strong relations between two friendly peoples.”
He censured the Arab and western states which support the armed terrorist groups.
“Syria’s future is to be decided by its people….Syrian leadership and people are steadfast in confronting the American plots, and they will come out of the crisis much stronger thanks to national awareness and people’s support for their wise leadership,” the Iranian official said.
Yesterday night, the Iranian delegation arrived in Damascus for a three-day visit during which regional and bilateral issues are due to be discussed with several Syrian officials.
Upon his arrival here, Boroujerdi told reporters that the visit aims to back Syria in confronting Zionist entity and bolster distinguished relations between the two states.
“Conspirators against Syria have failed,” Boroujerdi concluded.
