Al-Moallem to Kag: Syria Committed to Obligations of Chemical Weapons Elimination

DAMASCUS- The progress achieved in the process of eliminating chemical weapons in Syria was the focus of talks held today afternoon between Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem and Sigrid Kag, the Special Coordinator of the Joint Committee of the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Talks also stressed the need of continuous cooperation between Syria on the one hand and the OPCW and UN on the other to make further progress.

Al-Moallem reiterated Syria’s commitment to its obligations, but takes into consideration the current security circumstances in the country and the need not to politicize the process.

Kag, for her part, hailed Syria’s cooperation and the progress achieved in implementing the program set for eliminating chemical weapons in the country.

She expressed her and the mission team’s complete readiness to spare no effort to meet the requirements of the process and to make it a success.
