Al-Moallem to De Mistura: Syria Considers Eliminating Terrorism and Drying Up its Funding Sources as a Top Priority

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has considered that eliminating terrorism and drying up its funding and support as a top priority, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem said during his meeting on Thursday with Staffan de Mistura, the UN Special Envoy for Syria.

Al-Moallem added that Syria backs the initiative proposed by President Vladimir Putin of Russia on mobilizing regional efforts to eliminate terrorism within the framework of implementing the Security Council resolutions related to fighting terrorism.

The Syrian top diplomat stressed the steadfastness of the Syrian people and army in defense of the security and stability of Syria and the region.

During the meeting de Mistura briefed al-Moallem on developments relating to following up the consultations and meetings Mistura held in several countries aiming to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

De Mistura is to present a briefing on the consultations to the Security Council later this month.
