DAMASCUS – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem said on Thursday that terrorism is an international problem, not a problem of Syria or Iraq alone, adding that the Syrian army has proven that it is able to do its missions, and “we need more weapon and special ammunition to confront the special weapon possessed by terrorist organizations.
“Since four years and a half, conspirators’ bet on Syria was that the regime will fall, the army will be defeated and Syria will be a defeated, divided state, but the new fact is that they have lost the bet as Syria still steadfast and its army is still resisting with heroism and the Syrian people support the army,” al-Moallem said in a special interview with the Syrian TV and reported by SANA.
As for dealing with regional countries that support terrorism, al-Moallem said “those countries have felt, since more than 4 years, that they are in a safe place away from the evils of terrorism… and we have always said that terrorism will turn back and hit its supporters, and when we talk about a coalition, coordination or an ally, we are responding to the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin who has asked to establish such a coalition”.
Al-Moallem added the main question now is “are those countries which have the desire to combat terrorism in Syria true or determined to change their stances of conspiracy on Syria into coordinating with it.”
He affirmed that the Russians have never postponed supporting the Syrian Arab army since the outbreak of the crisis, but they have lately touched a double standard policy in dealing with Syria by the West which wants to expand the extent of the crisis and destroy what has remained of infrastructure.
