DAMASCUS, (ST) – “Syria will participate in the Geneva conference only on the basis of the Syrian people’s exclusive right to decide upon their political future and choosing their leadership. Furthermore, any form of foreign interference is rejected and the dialogue in Geneva will be between Syrians under the Syrian flag ,” underscored Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem.
Al-Moallem’s remark was made during his meeting on Tuesday with UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi .
The meeting’s top agenda was discussing efforts for holding the international conference on Syria in Geneva.
The Deputy Prime Minister made it clear that Syria is rejected all statements and declarations issued under various titles and headlines, including the London statement, on the future of Syria, saying that these statements infringe upon the rights of the Syrian people and preempt the results of a dialogue among Syrians that hasn’t even started yet.
The UN envoy ,for his part, reviewed the results of his tour in the region and the efforts to hold the Geneva conference, underlying that he came to Damascus to prepare for the Geneva conference .
” only Syrians can decide upon Syria’s future, “stressed Ibrahimi.
Both sides were identical as regards halting violence and terrorism and respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
