Beijing – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem discussed on Thursday with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi the bilateral relations between Syria and China and means to develop them in all sectors.
During the meeting which was held at the headquarter of Chinese Foreign Ministry, the two sides discussed means to resolve the crisis in Syria and the developments in the Middle East region and the efforts to combat terrorist organizations, mainly ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra, SANA reported.
The viewpoints of the two sides were identical regarding the necessity of launching a Syria-Syrian dialogue without foreign interference based on the Syrian people’s right to decide their future.
Both sides stressed the importance of the inseparability of counterterrorism efforts and reaching a political solution.
Al-Moallem reviewed the Syrian stance, affirming that a progress in the efforts to reach a political solutions is linked to victory over terrorism which has become a matter of global priority and requires pushing forward the international efforts to dry up the sources of terrorism and prevent the infiltration of terrorists across the border, pointing out to the interdependence of the UN Security Council Resolutions NO 2253 and 2254 and combating terrorism and finding a political solution.
The minister added that any attempt by any international party to interfere in the Syrians’ right to decide their future is rejected.
In turn, Yi said that China welcomes the visit of al-Moallem and supports the Syrian position on the interdependence of the tracks of fighting terrorism and a political solution, noting China’s readiness to play an important role side by side with Syria in these two tracks.
The Chinese minister announced that his country will continue to provide humanitarian aid for Syria and to increase its levels and meet Syria’s needs and coordinate with Syria to restore security and stability to it.
China supports efforts by the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism and calls on other nations to respect those efforts, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday, the Russian Sputnik stated.
“During our talks, the Syrian foreign minister clearly stated that Syria is decisively set in the fight against terrorism and we welcome these efforts. We believe that all efforts in the fight against terrorism should be respected and supported,” Wang said during a joint press conference with Syrian Foreign Minister in Beijing.
On Monday, Wang said China would soon invite representatives from the Syrian government and opposition to come to China to discuss the political settlement of the Syrian crisis.
According to Xinhuanet, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi invited Syrian Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem to come to China as it looks to ways to help with the peace process. Syrian Foreign Minister said that Syria is ready to take part in peace talks in Geneva.
“We should stick to a peaceful resolution of the Syrian issue. The people of Syria decide the future and fate of Syria, the UN plays a key role in negotiations.”
“We agreed that these three principles should be upheld throughout the whole peace process of Syria,” said Wang.
Walid Al-Moallem, Syrian Foreign Minister said:”Syria ready to participate in the Syrian-Syrian Dialogue in Geneva without any foreign interference and our delegation will be ready as soon as we receive a list of the opposition delegation.”
China and Syria agreed on principles needed for peace talks between Syria’s government and opposition.
