Al-Moallem: Syria is keen on being treated as member state in CWC

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Minister has said Syria is keen on being treated as a member state in the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) without discrimination or politicization.

Walid al-Moallem stressed that Syria’s sincere cooperation with the OPCW-UN joint mission led by Sigrid Kaag and her team was behind the unprecedented success in dealing with chemical weapons issue.

His remark came as he was meeting with the Special coordinator of the OPCW-UN Joint mission Sigrid Kaag and the accompanying delegation on Wednesday.

Sigrid Kaag expressed satisfaction over what have been realized so far, saying that the elimination of Syria’s chemical weapons was positive precedent in the history of the UN and the OPCW.

The official news agency (SANA) said the talks during the meeting dealt with Syria’s implementation of its obligations under the CWC and the Executive Council’s decisions in this regard.

The talks also zeroed in on continuity of constructive cooperation between Syria and the OPCW in respect of closing the file of eliminating Syria’s chemical weapons.
