Al-Moallem: Syria, Egypt Facing Common Enemy, Need to Join Efforts against Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem on Thursday received a delegation representing the Federation of the Egyptian Chambers of Commerce participating in the 59th Damascus International fair.

Talks dealt with historical relations between the Syrian and Egyptian peoples and the need to enhance economic ties.

The guest delegation is led by the Federation’s head Ahmad al-Wakeel.

 Al-Moallem said that the Syrian government decision to hold the 59th edition of Damascus International fair Indicated the strength and recovery of the Syrian State, stressing that the notable Egyptian participation in the fair reflected the true desire of the brotherly people of Egypt to boost relations with Syria and affirmed the importance of exchanging visits in opening new cooperation horizons that benefit the peoples of both countries.

 The deputy premier briefed the Egyptian delegation on the latest developments in Syria and the achievements made by the Syrian Arab army in the fight against terrorism as to restore stability in the country as soon as possible. He hailed the steadfastness of the Syrian people and their rallying behind their leadership and army.

Al-Moallem affirmed that Syria and Egypt are facing a common enemy, which is the regional and international-backed takfiri terrorism and this necessitates joining efforts to eliminate terrorist organizations.

On his part, al-Wakeel said the delegation’s visit to Syria and its participation in the Damascus International Fair express the Egyptian side’s true willingness to restore normal ties with Syria and give impetus to cooperation.

He hailed the steadfastness of the Syrian state in the face of the ongoing terrorist war imposed on it, stressing the Egyptian people’s support for their brothers in Syria and expressing hope that security and stability will be restored to the entire Syrian territory as soon as possible.
