Al-Moallem, Roumas Discuss Belarus’s Participation in Syria’s Reconstruction Process

MINSK, (ST)- Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Roumas and Syria’s Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem on Tuesday discussed future steps that must be taken to consolidate economic cooperation between Syria and Belarus and  to upgrade it up to the level of political relations between the two countries.

 The two sides affirmed that meetings of the 7th session of the Syrian-Belarusian Joint Committee, which is agreed to be held in Damascus soon, will be a suitable opportunity to enhance economic ties and trade exchange to reach the hoped-for partnership. They called for benefiting from the strategic position of the two countries in serving the interests of the peoples of Syria and Belarus.

Roumas and al-Moallem affirmed during the meeting the importance of reactivating the signed agreements, memos and executive programs and of activating the work teams resulted from the joint committee. They also discussed the Belarusian companies participation in Syria’s reconstruction process and the facilitations needed to make this participation a success.

The meeting was attended by officials and diplomats representing the two countries.

In an interview with Channel1 of the state-run Belarusian TV on the sidelines of his visit to Minsk, al-Moallem talked about the political and military situation in Syria, counterterrorism efforts, Astana meetings on Syria and bilateral relations between Syria and Belarus.
