Al-Moallem meets Russian, Iraqi, Sudanese, Algerian, Democratic Korean counterparts

NEW YORK,(ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Minister has warned that there might be different agendas for some countries that are taking part in the US-led coalition against terrorism.

Walid al-Moallem said drying up terrorists’ base of support is a must for the success of counter-terrorism operation.

His remarks were made during separate meetings with several Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly at U.N. headquarters.

 According to the official news agency (SANA), al-Moallem met Saturday separately his Russian and Iraqi counterparts

The talks between Walid al-Moallem and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, zeroed in on the current developments in the region and crimes being perpetrated by the terror organization Daesh (ISIL) and al-Nusra Front in Syria and Iraq.

The two officials also underscored necessity of coordination between Syria and Russia in all fields and importance of the forthcoming Syrian-Russian committee’s meetings.

The importance of coordination between Syria and Iraq in terror fight was discussed earlier by al-Moallem and his Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim al-Jaafari.

Coordination

Al-Moallem and al-Jaafari debated the importance of clarifying the dangers of terrorism and crimes being committed by terrorist organization in Syria and Iraq as well as means for drying up terrorists’ base of support.

Al-Moallem stressed importance of coordination between the two countries [Syria and Iraq], warning that there might be different agendas for some countries that are taking part in the US-led coalition.  

Last night, al-Moallem separately met Foreign Ministers of Sudan, Algeria and Democratic Korea.

He briefed the Foreign Ministers on the terrorist organizations’ practices in Syria and Iraq over the past three years, affirming that counter-terrorism operation will succeed only if the countries that support terrorism are pressed to stop doing that.
