Al-Moallem De Mistura Meeting

Vienna Statement Includes No Item Forcing Terrorism Supporting Countries to Implement UNSC Resolutions on Combating Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem has stressed that the statement of Vienna meeting on Syria included many important points, but it didn’t provide for any item forcing the countries known of supporting terrorism to implement the Security Council resolutions relating to combating terrorism in order to make efforts being exerted to counter terrorism and witness a ceasefire effective.

Al-Moallem’s remarks were made on Sunday during his meeting with UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura and the accompanying delegation in Damascus.

De Mistura briefed al-Moallem on the details of the meetings held on October 29th and 30th in Vienna about the crisis in Syria and on the most important points provided in the statement issued at the end of the meeting.

“Syria will continue to fight terrorism,” Al-Moallem said, reiterating the importance of the Russian, Iranian and Lebanese resistance cooperation with Syria in this regard.

He clarified that any counter-terrorism efforts without coordination with the Syrian government won’t serve the goal of combating terrorism, but will violate the principles and goals of the UN Charter.

Al-Moallem reiterated Syria’s readiness to cooperate with De Mistura in efforts aiming to combat terrorism and launch dialogue among the Syrians.
