Al-Moallem, Chungong discuss parliaments role in explaining terror threat to world

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Martin Chungong discussed Sunday the international parliamentary relations and the role of Members of Parliament in clarifying the threat of terrorism to the world.

The two sides asserted that the MPs, who represent peoples all over the world, must be familiar with the reality of what is going on in any contested area, especially the global war on Syria.

Al-Moallem underscored that Syria is keen to combat terrorism that has hit it since four years ago. ” The countries that support terrorism in Syria must abide by implementing the relevant U.N. resolutions , particularly No.2170 and 2178,” he said.

The minister also briefed the IPU Secretary General  on the ongoing national reconciliations reached in several areas across the country.

On his part, Chungong expressed his support for Syria in its war against terrorism, indicating that what is going on in the world proves the threat of terrorism to world stability.

The IPU Secretary General’s visit to Syria aims to be briefed on the reality of events on the ground and to convey the image to the IPU and to see how it can help exit the crisis in Syria.

Chungong met the committees of Arab and Foreign Affairs and National Reconciliation at the Peoples’ Assembly [Parliament], according to the official news agency (SANA).

The agency said the meeting zeroed in on means of enhancing cooperation and coordination with the IPU to reach solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria.
