Al-Moallem: All Urge Ending Syrian People’s Suffering, None Talk about Reasons behind Such Suffering

NEW YORK-On the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly Session, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem met on Thursday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. He also held meetings with several foreign ministers.

Abbas-al-Moallem meeting focused on the situation in Palestine. President Abbas explained the ongoing moves aiming to bury the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and criticized attempts by some regional and international parties to normalize ties with the Israeli occupation.

Abbas stressed the Palestinian people’s support for the Syrian people’s struggle against terrorism, affirming the need to dry up terrorism financial resources.

  Al-Moallem also met the Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek and discussed with him the latest developments in Syria.

“All are talking about ending the suffering of the Syrian people, but no one have talked about the real reasons behind this suffering,” said al-Moallem, stressing that terrorism plus the constant support provided by certain countries to terrorist organizations and the unilateral coercive measures taken against the Syrians are the major reasons for the Syrians’ ordeal.

Al-Moallem and Zaoralek affirmed the importance of international cooperation to fight terrorism and restore security and peace to Syria. They also stressed necessity of continuous coordination within the framework of the humanitarian aid provided by the Czech Republic to Syria.

The Czech foreign minister reiterated that reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria is the responsibility of all countries. He expressed his country’s interest in contributing to the process of reconstruction in Syria.

Al-Moallem also held talks with the Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov on bilateral ties, the situation in the region and the need to unify anti-terror efforts.

The two sides asserted the importance of continuous coordination and consultation between Syria and Kazakhstan with the purpose of fighting terrorism and preventing its expansion to other countries of the world.
