NEW YORK, (ST)-Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Waid al-Moallem on Sunday held talks with his Iranian and Algerian counterparts on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly’s Session.
Al-Moallem’s meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif focused on continuous coordination and consultation between Syria and Iran on the developments in Syria and the region.
Al-Moallem stressed Syria’s adherence to fighting and eliminating terrorism as a top priority.
Zarif, on his part, affirmed Iran’s firm support for the Syrian state’s effort to reach a political solution that ends the crisis in the country.
Al-Moallem’s talks with the Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra highlighted the deep relations between the two countries and methods of enhancing cooperation in different areas. The two sides discussed the latest political developments in the region.
Al-Moallem explained the situation on ground in Syria, noting to the armed groups’ repeated violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement.
On Saturday, al-Moallem held meetings with the foreign ministers of Iraq, Oman, Cyprus and Armenia. He also met with his Russian, Belarusian and Sudanese counterparts on Friday.
