Al-Moallem: Acceptable Solution Should Preserve Syria’s National Unity, Sovereignty

ALGIERS, (ST)-The Syrian government sees that any acceptable solution to the crisis in Syria   should preserve the country’s national unity and sovereignty and should meet the aspirations of the Syrian people, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem has underscored, stressing that Syria won’t accept anything that harms its unity and sovereign decision.

Al-Moallem, who is on a three-day visit to Algeria, made the remarks on Tuesday during his meetings with Algerian officials.

Syria’s top diplomat’s talks with Algerian Prime Minster Abdelmalek Sellal focused on bilateral relations and the need to maintain dialogue and consultation between the two countries particularly in the light of tragic developments in the Arab and Islamic world.

The two sides exchanged views on issues relating to the current situation in the region and the world.

Al-Moallem talked about the crisis in Syria, the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva and the Syrian Arab Army’s victories in the battle against terrorism, the latest of which was the restoration of security to the historical city of Palmyra.

“Syria’s coming victory is a reward embodying the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of a heinous conspiracy in which more than a hundred countries, including Arab and regional ones, took part,” al-Moallem said.

He pointed out that “the ongoing events in the region serve the implementation of a western policy aiming to divide and fragment the Arab homeland as to help “Israel” prevail in the region,”

On his part, the Algerian premier stressed the unwavering stance of the Algerian state and leadership, represented by President Abdulaziz Boutaflika, on supporting Syria whatever the cost.

He expressed hope that peace, security and stability will be restored to Syria and stressed that Algeria is ready to welcome the Syrian delegation to the meetings of the joint Algerian-Syrian economic committee for boosting cooperation to be held soon.

Syria won’t accepts any solution that harms the unity and sovereign decision of the Syrian state

Al-Moallem’s meeting with Head of the National Popular Council in Algeria Mohammad al-Arabi Wild Khalifa highlighted the distinguished historical ties between Syria and Algeria.

Wild Khalifa congratulated the Syrian people on Palmyra victory, expressing hope that this achievement will open the way for more gains that lead to the restoration of security and stability to Syria so as it can restore its leading role in the Arab world.

He asserted Algeria’s keenness on preserving the unity of the Syrian land and people and on maintaining the sovereignty and independent decision of the Syrian state.

Al-Moallem on his part explained the stance of the Syrian Arab Republic on the proposals made for a solution to the crisis in Syria.

“Syria won’t accept any solution that harms the unity and sovereign decision of the Syrian state,” al-Moallem said, stressing that the Syrian government accepts only the solution that preserves Syria’s national unity and territorial integrity and that maintains national sovereignty and meet the Syrians’ aspirations.

Syrian people’s steadfastness hailed

Al-Mollaem also met Head of the Algerian Nation Council AbdelKader bin Saleh who hailed the Syrian people’s steadfastness in the face of the global conspiracy and highly appreciated the Syrians’ effective contribution to human civilization.

He affirmed that the Algerian government’s supportive stances on Syria at international forums come within the framework of Algeria’s policy of supporting justice and right in accordance with international laws.

Al-Moallem, on his part, said “the Syrian government spares no effort to push towards the attainment of political solution in Syria, but it faces a deadlock because of the oppositions’ complete subordination to the foreign political agendas of certain countries.”
