Al-Miqdad : US and its allies turned OPCW into a tool to achieve political goals against Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad has reiterated that Syria has fulfilled its obligations arising from its accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) despite the difficult circumstances that the country was going through at that time.

Al-Miqdad’s remarks were made during his meeting on Thursday with ambassadors and heads of accredited diplomatic missions in Damascus.

He asserted that Syria and several other countries were aware from the very beginning that the countries that supported and financed the armed terrorist groups in Syria, mainly US, France, Germany and Britain, will use the Syrian Chemical file and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons ( OPCW) to achieve their hostile goals against Syria.

Al-Miqdad stressed that the Syrian army has never used chemical weapons in the ongoing battles against terrorist groups.

He pointed out to the allegations of western states and the so-called group of “the White Helmets” who fabricated scenarios of using chemical weapons to accuse the Syrian Government of, now have established the so-called “Investigation and Identification Team” to fabricate reports that suit their  hostile goals against Syria.

“That was very obvious in the forged report of that team about Latamneh alleged incident of 2017 and the other report about Saraqeb in 2018 which included false conclusions that represent another scandal for OPCW,” Al-Miqdad added.

He called on the parties of the CWC to stand by Syria to confront western countries’ attempts to politicize the work of the OPCW.
