Al-Miqdad to UNICEF Regional Director: The need to support the school sector

 On December 13, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad met Regional Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the Middle East and North Africa Edward Ted Chaiban.

The two sides discussed ways to develop cooperation between the Syrian government and UNICEF.

Minister Al-Miqdad expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by UNICEF in Syria, especially in the fields of education and health.

 

Minister Al-Miqdad said that the Syrian government is ready to provide the required facilities for international organizations operating in Syria to ensure the provision of effective humanitarian activities. This will contribute to increasing the ability of the Syrian people to face the current challenges resulted by the sanctions  imposed on Syria  by the United States of America and some Western countries.

 Minister Al-Miqdad stressed the need for UNICEF to increase its humanitarian activities in Syria and intensify its capabilities, especially in supporting the school sector, which terrorism has destroyed a large part of schools. It called on UNICEF to make efforts to obtain anti-Corona vaccines to overcome the effects of this difficult crisis.

 For his part, Chaiban praised the facilities provided by the Syrian government to UNICEF for the sake of the success of its tasks.

Chaiban stressed UNICEF determination to move forward with its humanitarian activities in Syria in a way that would contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people, especially children.

Chaiban underscored the efforts made by UNICEF in cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Education and the World Health Organization (WHO) to obtain Syria’s anti-Corona vaccines in the coming period.
