Al-Miqdad to Lazzarini: Syria is ready to offer facilities to UNRWA

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Miqdad has reiterated Syria’s adherence to back the Palestinian refugees and to ease their sufferings in the light of big pressures being practiced by Washington to eliminate the Palestinian cause.

His remarks came during his meeting with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini in Damascus on Tuesday.

Al-Miqdad stressed that the Syrian government is ready to offer all facilities and all forms of support to UNRWA in order to guarantee a decent life for Palestinian refugees in Syria and to enhance cooperation between Syria and UNRWA.

He expressed Syria’s concern over the ability of UNRWA to defend its main task related to offering aid to Palestinian refugees.

Al-Miqdad also talked about the fruitful cooperation between Syrian Ministries of Education and Higher Education and UNRWA.

On his part, Lazzarini thanked the Syrian governments for its support to UNRWA to carry out its task and talked about the efforts being exerted by the Agency and UN General secretariat to face the financial crisis.

He explained that the Agency is working to encourage some donor countries all over the world to increase their support for UNRWA in order to remain able to carry out its noble humanitarian tasks towards Palestinian refugees in all areas of asylum.
