Al-Miqdad to Ambassadors in Damascus: The report of the so-called ‘investigation and identification team’ is false, politicized, and unrealistic
On June 24, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Chairman of the Syrian National Committee for the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention Faisal al-Miqdad, confirmed that what Syria did after its accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention in September 2013 is sure proof of its credibility and its desire to fulfill all the consequences of this accession process.
Al- Miqdad said that the report of the so-called “investigation and identification team” is false, politicized and unrealistic.
“ Syria cooperated, and still remains, in full and close cooperation with the technical secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to implement all its obligations, because Syria and its leadership are known for fulfilling their obligations, promises and covenants,” the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates website quoted al- Miqdad as saying during a meeting called by the National Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for ambassadors and heads of missions accredited to Damascus.
Al-Miqdad explained that since the beginning of the war, Syria was aware that the American policy was based on lies and attempts to demonize the Syrian state and the Syrian army. Therefore, accusations were made against the Syrian government, and then the evidence was fabricated.
“Everyone knows the timing of the announcement of theatrics using chemical weapons. The timing has always come against the backdrop of the army’s progress in confronting the terrorists. The United States and its allies were in a state of panic from fear of exposure of the terrorists who used these weapons,” Miqdad added.
Miqdad asked: If the Syrian army is progressing well against terrorists, then why do we need chemical weapons? Stressing that Syria does not possess any chemical weapons and that it never used these weapons because it no longer possesses them.
“The United States of America worked with its allies to obtain a decision in which the so-called ‘Investigation and Identification Team” was formed. This illegal team violates the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention, and Syria has formally set its position on it on April 23, 2019, in agreement with many friendly countries,” Miqdad said.
He explained that Syria understands that the political pressure exerted by Washington and its allies is aimed at covering up the process of misleading and lying that this team has pursued to manufacture and direct the accusation to the Syrian Arab Army, which is fighting global terrorism on behalf of the whole world.
Miqdad pointed out that among the main objectives of this report is to justify the described aggression carried out by the United States of America, Britain and France against Syria under the pretext of using chemical weapons from the Syrian Arab Army ,while supporting terrorist groups and justifying interference in the internal affairs of Syria.
Miqdad referred to the draft resolution prepared by the United States in coordination with some western countries for presentation at the next meeting of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
Miqdad pointed out that Washington and its allies are now moving in many capitals to pass it, using for this purpose intimidation and threats.
Miqdad stressed that politicizing the work of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in relation to the Syrian file should be rejected by all states that advocate right and justice.
Miqdad emphasized that all these games and hostilities will not deter Syria from continuing to fight terrorism and from facing the ongoing aggression by the United States and its allies and tools.
Miqdad asked the ambassadors to transfer this information and the Syrian response to the report of this illegal team to their capitals, and to ask their countries to reject the aforementioned draft resolution and stand by Syria because then they stand with justice and truth.
