Al-Miqdad: The Palestine question will remain the central Syrian issue, and our support for the Palestinian people is unwavering until the establishment of their independent state

New York  (ST): The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, reaffirmed that the Palestine question will remain the central issue for Syria, which will continue to support the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on all of its national soil with Jerusalem as its capital, granting it full membership in the United Nations, and guaranteeing the right of refugees to return to their homes in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 194 of 1948.
Al-Miqdad said in a letter to the Committee on the Palestinian People’s Exercise of their inalienable Rights in the General Assembly, which held a special session today to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People: Syria confirms that the Palestinian cause will remain its central cause, and it supports efforts to implement relevant Security Council and Assembly resolutions, highlighting the continuous and systematic crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and its flagrant violations of international covenants and laws.
Al-Miqdad indicated that for more than seven decades, Israel, the occupying power, continued its policies of killing, aggression, displacement, demographic change, settlement, theft and destruction of property and natural resources, which in their entirety constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, and persisted in its aggressive actions against the Palestinian people and our people in the occupied Syrian Golan, taking advantage of the silence of the Security Council, which pushes the region to unprecedented levels of tension and instability.
Al-Miqdad stressed that the crimes of the Israeli occupation would not have continued had it not been for the immunity from accountability and impunity provided to it by successive US administrations and its Western allies.
Al-Miqdad affirmed that Syria holds the countries supporting Israel responsibile and the consequences of the continuation of this occupation and its crimes on international peace and security, and stresses that any decisions or measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities do not comply with the relevant United Nations resolutions and do not preserve the established Palestinian and Arab rights are rejected in form and content and are not viable.
