Al-Miqdad: Syria and Iran work together to overcome the effects of illegal Western economic measures imposed on their peoples
Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, affirmed that relations between Syria and Iran are strategic and are always moving forward. He pointed out that the two countries are working to overcome the effects of the illegal Western economic measures imposed on their peoples.
Al-Miqdad said in a press statement after his talks with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdollahian at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on Wednesday that, we discussed developments related to bilateral relations, which are advanced and always moving forward, as economic exchanges between the two countries increased significantly during the past period.
The Two sides also discussed the coercive Western economic measures imposed on the two countries and ways to overcome.
Al-Miqdad indicated that the US occupation continues to loot Syria’s wealth in the Al-Jazeera region, including oil, gas, and wheat, and steal even a morsel from the mouth of Syrian children. “This matter has exacerbated the suffering of the Syrian people resulting from terrorism, siege and economic measures,” he added.
Al-Miqdad went on to say that, the talks also touched on the meetings of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution, currently being held in Geneva. He pointed out that Syria is with the success of what is happening, but what it is facing is that the other side is not working for the national interest.
Al-Miqdad affirmed Syria’s support for Iran’s principled position that it wants an agreement that serves the interests of its people during the ongoing talks in Vienna on the nuclear file. He added that, we are waiting for developments in this field of nuclear file, and we hope that others will know that Iran is capable of defending its interests and it works for the stability of the region and the world and does not have any nuclear ambitions.
Al-Miqdad pointed out that Syria believes that friends in Russia are defending their right to guarantee the security of their people away from the presence of NATO on their borders. He stressed that the unjust Western campaign against Russia will not lead to the results desired by the West because Russia defends its sovereignty, independence and people.
For his part, Abdullahian said that, we held important talks with President Bashar Al-Assad, Minister Miqdad, and Head of the National Security Office, Major General Ali Mamlouk, during which we discussed the distinguished relations between the two countries and regional and international developments.
“We welcome the development of relations between Syria and some Arab countries”, Abdullahian added.
Abdullahian affirmed Iran’s readiness to develop its relations with Syria more than ever. He said that, we hope to witness soon a visit and a meeting between the presidents of the two countries.
Abdullahian explained that, the talks also dealt with the latest developments regarding the Vienna negotiations aimed at reviving the nuclear agreement, which is approaching to reach a final formula that meets the interests of the Iranian people.
