Al-Miqdad: Syria and Iraq stand together in face of all common challenges

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed that the Iraqi-Syrian relations are historical and deep, and our position is firm in supporting Syria and standing by it. He expressed his happiness with Syria’s return to its seat in the Arab League.

During a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad in Baghdad, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said that the humanitarian situation in Syria is difficult and we need action at the regional and international levels to address it and to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and secure conditions for the return of refugees to their homes.

In turn, the Minister Al-Miqdad, said: I am in my country, and I feel proud of visiting Baghdad. We are always keen to make every effort to strengthen our relations in the interest of the two countries’ people.

Al-Miqdad added that the talks were constructive and included enhancing cooperation in all fields and that Syria and Iraq stand as one in facing all common challenges.

Al-Miqdad said: We discussed joint efforts to combat terrorism, so what harms Syria harms Iraq and vice versa, pointing out that the West’s imposition of coercive economic measures is not the appropriate method for relations between countries, and these measures have exacerbated the suffering of the Syrian people and must be lifted.

Al-Miqdad stressed that the presence of Syria within the framework of the institutions of the Arab League will enhance Arab action and give hope to all people that we are one hand to face all that we are exposed to.
