Al-Miqdad: Reports of Organization of Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons are politicized to serve Western interests

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, affirmed that the reports of the Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons on Syria are politicized to serve the interests of the West, pointing out that the US and Western countries ’continuing pressure at this stage is basically linked to the upcoming constitutional elections.

In an interview with the Syrian Al-Ekhbariya channel on Wednesday, Al-Miqdad stressed the failure of the West’s plans and military and terrorist pressures during the previous years, pointing out that the Syrian people decided to live with dignity and pride, to govern themselves and not to respond to those pressures.

Minister Al-Miqdad clarified that France is pursuing hostility against Syria in an insane manner based on lies and deception. The Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons has deliberately issued its report at this time in order to proceed with what is called “accountability for Syria.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that the reports of the Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) prove that its experts are neither impartial, nor neutral, professional and scientific. Our position in Syria was and is still strong because we are based on facts, the Minister noted, stressing that the organization’s scientists are hired and fear for their jobs.

Minister Al-Miqdad stated that there are British, American, Australian, French and New Zealand experts who confirm every day in articles that what the organization is doing is not correct and is politicized and does not reflect the reality of what is happening in Syria. He confirmed that the Syrian government’s cooperation with the organization depends on its reluctance to politicize.

Minister Al-Miqdad affirmed that Syria  disposed of its chemical program in 2014 and handed over the chemicals to the Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons so that the whole world would know that it had handed over its chemical materials to the organization and had nothing left, and that it did not believe either morally or practically in the use of weapons of mass destruction.

Al-Miqdad  pointed out that Sigrid Kaag, head of the joint mission of the Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations, presented her final report to the Security Council about Syria’s destruction of its chemical program, even though she was not sure of what she presented. The organization should not deal with countries except through facts and evidence.

Minister Al-Miqdad pointed out that all the investigations that took place, especially in the recent “Saraqib” incident, were not carried out on the ground, rather, they were relied upon so-called “open sources”, which means that any “terrorist” writes a comment on the Internet that becomes a document.  He questioned that the prime lie is that this incident happened a long time ago, so why did the report of the Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons come just five days before its conference?. He pointed out that the organization deviated from its neutrality and tasks completely.

The Minister stated that many countries, led by China and Russia, have protested against the politicization of the organization’s work because the “proofs” it presented have deviated from the agreement and because it established bodies outside the agreement with the aim of meeting the plans of Western countries and placing this world at the disposal of Western countries to control them however they want. The organization can accuse any country and pressure it through the use of chemical weapons by “terrorist organizations” and then accuse the governments of those countries if they object to American policies.

Minister Al-Miqdad emphasized that Syria cooperated with the Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons from 2013 until this moment, but the organization’s leadership insistence to politicize it to serve Western interests will invite us to rethink cooperation with it.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates pointed out that there are a large number of countries that believe in Syria’s position and stand by it and have become complaining about the politicization of the Organization of the Non-Proliferation of Chemical Weapons. They have sent messages to the foreign ministers of the countries of the world, including many European Union foreign ministers, and soon other allies will join us.
