Al-Miqdad: President al-Assad’s visit to China is very important and constitutes a new leap in the history of relations between the two countries
Damascus (ST): Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, confirmed that the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to China is very important, and represents a “new leap” in the history of relations between the two countries. He pointed out that relations between Syria and China have developed greatly in recent years, and that the international situation has changed a lot, and China has played a prominent role at various levels.
Al-Miqdad said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency published today: Relations between the two countries are very developed, and this visit will be a new leap in the history of relations, whether through the support that China provides to Syria, or the support that Syria provides to China, through its belief in one China and its support for all the initiatives put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping over the past years.
Al-Miqdad pointed out that China plays a major role for the benefit of humanity, and has presented many initiatives in this field, the first of which was not the Belt and Road Initiative, but there were initiatives related to international security, human civilization, and economic growth.
Regarding the Syrian participation in the 19th Asian Games, which will be held in the city of Khanjo, Al-Miqdad believed that the Asian Games will add an atmosphere of joy to these important meetings between the Syrian and Chinese leaderships, pointing out that Syria participated in all the sporting activities held in China, and expressing his optimism that the Syrian team can win a number of competitions in the Asian Games, noting that the Syrians are grateful and feel comfortable with all the preparations that China has made for the success of the Asian Games.
Regarding the illegal Western presence in Syria, especially the American occupation forces, Al-Miqdad said: The United States is exploiting Syrian wealth and plundering the Syrian oil, gas and agricultural potential. In the latest statistics provided by the Syrian Ministry of Oil and reported to the United Nations, we estimated that the money stolen by the United States of America from Syria as a result of its theft and plunder of Syrian oil and other development capabilities reached 115 billion dollars.
Al-Miqdad called for the return of these looted resources and compensation for the Syrian people. He called on the international community and the United Nations to follow up on this important issue and hold the United States of America accountable regarding its plunder of Syrian wealth. He said: “The American occupiers and those who support them in this must be aware that this occupation will not last.”
Regarding the role that China played in promoting peace and development in the Middle East, Al-Miqdad stressed that China succeeded in achieving reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran because it has good relations with the Gulf states and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
