Al-Miqdad: Positions of Syria and Iran identical on various issues Abdullahian: We will continue to provide support to Syria

Damascus (ST): The  Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, affirmed that coordination between Syria and Iran continues at the highest levels, and their stances towards international issues and developments in the region and the world are identical and that the situation in the region cannot return to normal and achieve stability without eliminating terrorism and ending foreign occupation.

Al-Miqdad said during a press conference  with his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, at the  Foreign Ministry building: The guest delegation headed by Minister Abdullahian met with President Bashar Al-Assad, and the meeting was based on respect , truth and honesty that express the strength of the relations that bind the two friendly countries. The minister indicated that the meeting was not limited to discussing ways to deal with the repercussions of the earthquake, but also dealt with regional and international developments and the positions of the two countries towards them.

Al-Miqdad explained that Iran was among the first countries to contribute to the search and rescue operations after the earthquake, including the first planes loaded with relief aid to Syria, noting that the Iranian delegation was briefed on the damage caused by the earthquake in the city of Jableh, and the conditions of the affected families residing in the shelter center in Al-Assad Sports city in Latakia.

Al-Miqdad said: Minister Abdallahian and I discussed bilateral relations and international issues, and there was agreement and congruence in attitudes towards the basic developments in the world today, and we are both optimistic that these developments can contribute to the return of conditions in the region to normal, explaining that the common priorities of the two countries were and will remain centered around the need for the illegal foreign forces to leave Syria, whether they are in the northwest or the northeast, and to continue the war on terrorism until it is finally eliminated and the world is saved from its scourge.

Al-Miqdad referred to the important and positive role of Iran since the beginning of the crisis in Syria. This expresses a true belief in international legitimacy, and the need to end the region’s problems that were started by terrorists and their supporters from Western countries, expressing welcome for Tehran’s accession to the quartet meetings that will be held soon in Moscow, and focus on discussing ending all forms of occupation as soon as possible because it has brought terror and destruction to the region and its people.

Al-Miqdad indicated that Syria has fought terrorism for 12 years and liberated most of its lands from it. The coercive measures imposed by the countries supporting terrorism exacerbated the suffering of the Syrian people resulting from it, depriving them of food, medicine and the most basic necessities of life. When these measures combine with the earthquake, it leads to a real catastrophe, pointing out that these measures imposed on Syria, Iran and Russia represent a form of economic terrorism and aggression against humanity.

Al-Miqdad stressed Syria’s readiness to provide facilities to the United Nations and international organizations with the aim of delivering support and relief aid to all affected areas by various means.

He affirmed Syria and Iran’s rejection and condemnation of the Judaization turbine scheme in the occupied Syrian Golan and all the Israeli occupation’s crimes against the Palestinians, who are subjected to almost daily massacres in an attempt by the occupation to dominate the capabilities of the region.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister offered condolences to the Syrian leadership, government and people for the victims of the painful earthquake, stressing his country’s solidarity and continued support and provision of aid to face its repercussions. He said: I met President Bashar al-Assad and it was an opportunity to offer condolences and sympathy to the Syrian people, and we also discussed a number of international and regional bilateral issues.

Abdullahian expressed regret for the indolence of some countries, and their lack of attention to the suffering and problems resulting from the coercive measures imposed on Syria and their impact on relief efforts for those affected by the earthquake, which proves the double standards of the United States and Western countries that claim humanity, calling for lifting these measures and providing humanitarian aid away from any politicization, indicating that he raised this during the recent meetings of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Abdullahian made it clear that Iran is satisfied with the positive development in the regional and international stances towards Syria and the restoration of its important role in the region, pointing out that bilateral talks and multilateral dialogues in the region are the only solution to crises and moving forward on the path of sustainable development.
