Al-Miqdad meets with Russian representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, met today with the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the Hague, Ambassador Alexander Shulgin.
The two sides discussed coordination between the two countries’ permanent missions in the organization to confront the common challenges, pressure and blackmail exerted by Western countries through the organization’s work against independent countries.
The two sides condemned the politicization of the organization’s work and the Western approach hostile to countries that stand in the way of Western plans, including making incorrect accusations and launching disinformation campaigns to distort the image of Syria and Russia in the organization.
Minister Al-Miqdad stressed the firm position of the Syrian Arab Republic on rejecting the use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhere and under any circumstances, and Syria’s commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention and providing all the facilities required for the work of the organization.
Minister Al-Miqdad thanked the Russian Federation and Ambassador Shulgin for supporting Syria in the Organization and stressed the depth of the historical friendly relations between the two countries.
In turn, Ambassador Shulgin stressed that the coordination between the two permanent missions in the Hague to confront attempts by Western countries to impose their hegemony on the work and decisions of the Organization.
Ambassador Shulgin praised Syria’s fulfillment of its obligations towards the work of the organization despite the terrorist war it is facing.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Dr. Imad Mustafa, Director of the Diplomatic Institute, officials from the Syrian National Committee for the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Damascus.
