CAIRO, SEP.7, (ST)- Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the caretaker government Faisal Al-Miqdad met in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with Ali Abu Saba, Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), whose main center was hosted by Syria for decades in the Tal Hadya area in Aleppo.
During the meeting, Al-Miqdad asserted the importance of resuming the momentum of the relationship between Syria and ICARDA, praising the scientific and research role played by the center in Syria, the positive results of which were reflected regionally and globally, stressing the need to preserve and develop it.
He also stressed the Syrian government’s readiness to provide all possible facilities and assistance to resume ICARDA’s work in Syria.
For his part, Abu Saba presented the development services that the center provides to developing countries, referring to the various challenges that the center faced as a result of what happened to the region in which the center was located in Aleppo since 2011.
He in addition recalled the cooperation relations that linked Syria with ICARDA over the years, and the research and development projects carried out by ICARDA, from which Syria and all developing countries benefited.
Abu Sabs expressed his hope to work again with the Syrian government for return of center to its work in Syria, and to resume its assistance in developing agricultural production and confronting the challenges of climate change.
Al-Miqdad arrived this morning in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to hold talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty, and to participate in the work of the 162nd regular session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level.
