Al-Miqdad meets Iranian officials over regional issues

TEHRAN,(ST)_Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faisal al-Miqdad has held talks with several Iranian officials on latest developments in Syria, Syrian-Iranian relations, Moscow consultative meeting and Iranian nuclear file.

According to the official news agency (SANA), al-Miqdad and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian tackled today the latest developments in Syria plus Syrian-Iranian relations.

The two sides’ meeting in Tehran zeroed in on importance of continuity of consultation and coordination between Syria and Iran for the interest of the two countries’ peoples .

Al-Miqdad stressed during the gathering that counterterrorism and meeting the Syrian people’s basic needs are priorities for the Syrian government.

“The unfair blockade on Syrian people will never dissuade it from confronting terrorism and the US-Zionist plot,” al-Miqdad added.

He indicated the need for attaching great importance to the economic side in order to support the steadfastness of the Syrian people, who is achieving more victories over the armed terrorist gangs thanks to the Syrian army and leadership. 

Al-Miqdad, in addition, described the Moscow consultative meeting recently held between the Syrian government and opposition figures as ‘a first step towards reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria’, pointing to the plan of the UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura.

Correct stance

“The International community has realized that Syria’s stance toward terrorism was correct since the beginning of the crisis in the country, ” al-Miqdad said, adding that the international and regional-backed terrorism rebound to its supporters, so there must be joint effort to combat it.

“Syrian  government welcomes and support every effort based on respecting Syria’s unity and sovereignty to restore stability and security to the country,” al-Miqdad said.

He thanked Iran for supporting the Syrian people and government, stressing that Syrian people will achieve victory thanks to the wisdom of its leadership and sacrifices of its army.

On his part, the Iranian official praised victories realized by the Syrian Arab army against  terrorist organizations, reiterating his country’s support for Syrian people and government in fighting terrorism.

“Iran supports every effort that helps resolve the crisis in Syria through dialogue and far away from foreign intervention, Abdollahian said.

Another topic related to the recent developments in the Iranian nuclear file was discussed by al-Miqdad and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for International and legal Affairs Abbas Araqchi.

The two sides asserted that making the Middle East region free of the Weapons of Mass Destruction necessitates placing Israel’s nuclear facilities under international oversight.

Heroic resistance

The third meeting held between al-Miqdad and Chairman of the Foreign Policy and National Security Committee in Iran’s Shura Council Alaeddin Boroujerdi dealt with the latest developments in Syria, Moscow consultative meeting and de Mistura’s plan.

Boroujerdi underscored that the Iranian Shura Council backs the Iranian government’s decisions that support the Syria people and government.

IRNA quoted Boroujerdi as saying: ” The heroic resistance of the Syrian people and leaders, especially Mr. Bashar al Assad, under the tough conditions of the past four years has forced anti-Syria forces to face a doomed defeat,ˈ he said.
