DAMASCUS, Dec.27, (ST)- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad discussed on Tuesday with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov bilateral relations and the ways of boosting them to reach the two peoples’ ambitions.
The two sides discussed in a phone call a number of issues related to the humanitarian aid and UNSC resolution No. 2642 and the western countries’ disavowal from their commitments, particularly the early recovery projects, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The agency added that Al-Miqdad briefed Lavrov on the economic difficulties that Syria is facing because of the unilateral western-US measures and the US occupation’s plundering of Syrian resources of oil, wheat and others while Syrians are suffering from shortage of energy.
He said Syria condemns western campaigns that target Russia and its national security.
For his part, Lavrov reiterated his country’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its efforts for the return of refugees, stressing the importance of the efforts being exerted to prepare for the meetings of the Syrian-Russian joint committee to discuss joint economic issues and develop bilateral relations.
He stressed Russia’s determination to protect Donbass, expressing his country’s appreciation for Syria’s support in this regard.
The two ministers exchanged congratulations on Christmas and the New Year.
