Al-Miqdad holds talks with Lavrov in New York

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal Al-Miqdad, discussed on Thursday with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, various issues related to enhancing the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries at political and economic levels which witnessed a new momentum through the recent summit held between Presidents Bashar Al-Assad and Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
 
The two ministers underscored the need to press ahead with developing the bilateral relations, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).
 
The agency reported that the talks between Al-Miqdad and Lavrov dealt with the situation in Syria, the need to continue fighting terrorism until it is completely eliminated, putting an end to the illegitimate foreign presence on Syrian territory and removing unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria.
 
In this context,  Lavrov affirmed his country’s firm stance, based on full respect for Syria’s sovereignty and independence and territorial integrity, and non-intervention in its internal affairs.
 
For his part, Al-Miqdad expressed Syria’s appreciation for the Russian support in political, economic and humanitarian fields.
 
The two ministers also discussed the developments in the region and welcomed convening the 1st  ministerial meeting of “the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations “ that was held today in New York.
