Al-Miqdad holds prosperous talks in Tehran

TEHRAN, DEC.6, (ST)-The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad has affirmed that the relations between Syria and Iran are strategic and distinguishable and they aim to build a promising future for the region’s peoples to live in peace far from foreign intervention.

AL-Miqdad said, during a press conference with his Iranian Counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran, that he conveyed a written message from President Bashar Al-Assad to the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on the importance of the Syrian-Iranian relations.

President Al-Assad’s message also included an invitation to President Raisi to visit Syria. Al-Miqdad also asserted that he held positive talks with Abdollahian.

The Syrian minister added that the economic relation between Damascus and Tehran was the main topic in his talks with the Iranian minister, pointing out that western powers intervene to block reaching real economic cooperation between the region’s peoples.

He stressed that Syria and Iran will continue to exchange visits and to sign new deals with the aim of enhancing economicl relations with Iran and with all countries in the region to create a new regional situation where international competition that does not serve the region’s countries has no place.

Al-Miqdad asserted that Syria welcomes Iranian companies and companies from other countries that want to carry our investment projects, praising the efforts being exerted to lift the sanctions which  hinder the carrying out of investment projects in Syria.

He went on to say that  these sanctions are illegitimate and contradict the principles of Human Rights and they cause economic problems in the region.

The minister underlined that recent development in the Afghanistan and Iraq were also on the table, referring to the fact that the United States had transported thousands of terrorists from Syria to Afghanistan.
Al-Miqdad also asserted that the Iranian nuclear program is peaceful and the US has to return to the Iranian nuclear deal.

“Between 2002-2003, Syria presented an initiative to make the Middle East free of mass destruction weapons, but the western countries stood against this intiative,” he added.

As for the Israeli repeated attacks on Syria, the minister clarified that Syria pursues the terrorist organizations, who are supported by the Israeli occupation, in response to the direct attacks being carried out by the Israeli enemy because of Syria’s victory over these organizations.

Moreover, the minister pointed out that the UAE Foreign Minister’s visit to Syria was a positive step. “We hope that other Arab countries will follow in the same footsteps.. The atmosphere is positive and the most important point  is to search for our Arab-Arab interests.”
