Al-Miqdad, Guterres discuss the recent developments in the region

DAMASCUS, Aug.7, (ST)-Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Al-Miqdad, discussed with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during a phone call, the latest developments in the region and the aspects of joint cooperation in various fields between Syria and the United Nations.

Al-Miqdad asserted that the United Nations has to play its role in stopping the current Israeli aggression on Gaza, condemning the repeated Israeli attacks on Syria, and giving the necessary attention to the situation in the occupied Syrian Golan in line with the relevant UN resolutions.

Moreover, the minister talked about the continuous violations committed by the US occupation in northeastern Syria and its support for terrorist groups at Al-Tanf base on the Syrian-Jordanian and Iraqi borders.

He stressed the importance of the full implementation of early recovery projects in Syria, especially in the electricity sector, calling on the United Nations to raise its voice in the face of unilateral coercive measures illegally imposed on the Syrian people.

For his part, Guterres stressed the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and to adhere to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, noting that the United Nations is working with all concerned parties to avoid further escalation in Gaza.

Guterres indicated that the United Nations will spare no effort to carry out its responsibilities with regard to early recovery projects, especially those related to electricity, given its vital role in various areas of life, reiterating his position not to accept unilateral coercive measures.
