Al-Miqdad discusses with the Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Program ways to enhance cooperation
On November 27th, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with Ramiro de Oliveira Lopez da Silva, Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Program, and the accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed relations of cooperation and ways to enhance them in order to help improve the humanitarian situation and meet the basic living needs of Syrian citizens.
Minister Al-Miqdad presented the Syrian government’s efforts in light of the terrorist war and the facilities it provides to international organizations, including the World Food Program, to deliver humanitarian aid to those who deserve it.
He pointed out the importance of focusing on aspects related to early recovery and resilience support and related programs, expressing Syria’s appreciation for the efforts made by the Program in this field and its readiness to enhance cooperation with the Program away from any political agendas that some parties are trying to impose.
He stressed the importance of confronting the negative impact of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people by the United States of America and the European Union, which also affect the work of United Nations organizations.
In turn, Mr. da Silva thanked the Syrian government for its cooperation with the Program and for its efforts in facilitating the work of the Program to improve its role in providing services and delivering humanitarian aid to those in need.
He called on the international community to exert more efforts to help the Syrian people overcome the difficulties and challenges they face.
He emphasized that the Program is making every effort to raise the level of funding for its activities in Syria, expressing his appreciation for the relationship between the Syrian government and the Program in facing the challenges on the ground.
