Al-Miqdad and Zarif discuss by phone the means of developing and enhancing relations between Syria and Iran
Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad discussed in a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday the various developments related to two countries, the region and the world. The phone call was in follow-up to the developments in the region and based on what the two ministers agreed upon to continue coordination and consultation on various issues of common interest.
At the beginning of his speech, Minister Al-Miqdad stressed the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries, pointing out that the two peoples and two governments are satisfied with the high level that these relations have reached in various fields.
Al-Miqdad spoke about the preparations made by the Syrian government to hold the presidential elections on the constitutional date, referring to the importance of these presidential elections for the Syrian people and the great interaction shown by the Syrian citizens to make these elections a success.
Regarding the economic issue, Minister Al-Miqdad reiterated Syria’s condemnation of the unilateral economic measures imposed by the United States and some Western countries on Syria and Iran, demanding that, they should be lifted immediately because they are unethical and harmful to citizens. He praised in this context Iran’s support for Syria in the face of the coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people.
Al-Miqdad condemned the role of some countries, especially the United States of America, in targeting the livelihood of the Syrians and plundering their oil, wheat and various resources to undermine their positions on the sovereignty and unity of their country.He stressed once again Syria’s position in rejecting such economic terrorism wherever it is.
Minister Al-Miqdad also affirmed Syria’s support for the Islamic Republic of Iran and its position on the rights, sovereignty and independence of its people, especially with regard to the ongoing negotiations in Vienna to return to the nuclear agreement.
Meanwhile, the Minister Zarif expressed his thanks and appreciation for Syria’s stance in support of Iran on various issues, again his country’s position in support of Syria in holding its presidential elections, and the constitutional entitlements in the manner determined by the Syrian people and the constitution of the Syrian Arab Republic.
Zarif also renewed his country’s position in support of Syria in combating terrorism and confronting the repercussions of economic terrorism that targets the Syrian and Iranian peoples and the rest of the peoples who reject hegemonic schemes and undermine the sovereignty and independence of countries. He also praised the heroics of the Syrian Arab Army in the face of Israeli attacks and the various forms of aggression that target the Syrian people and denouncing what these represent Attacks from crimes and violations.
Minister Zarif presented the results of his recent tour in the countries of the region and the developments of the ongoing talks in Vienna related to the nuclear agreement. The two sides also discussed, during the contact, various issues related to bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop and strengthen them in a manner that ensures their advancement in order to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian and Iranian peoples.
The two sides condemned,, the Zionist attacks on the Palestinian people, especially the Judaization practices and the seizure of Palestinian property, especially in Al-Quds (Jerusalem). They condemned also the expansion of settlements in a blatant violation of all international legitimacy decisions and in a constant disregard for the rights and demands of the Palestinian people.
The two sides reaffirmed their full support for the struggle of the Palestinian people in the face of all attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause and target the rights of the Palestinian people. The two countries also affirmed their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to end their suffering from the occupation.
