Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad on Wednesday received Vitaly Naumkin, President of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Vitaly Naumkin, and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Mikdad explained the difficult circumstances the Syrian people are experiencing as a result of 12 years of terrorist war against Syria and due the earthquake that struck the country recently. He referred to the catastrophic impact of the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States of America and the West on Syria and on countries that do not accept the policies of hegemony and submission.
Minister Mikdad praised the well-established relations between Syria and the Russian Federation, which are rooted in the conscience of the Syrian people and the peoples of the Russia. He stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen these relations to face the challenges that the colonial West is still trying to impose on the peoples of the world.
In turn, Naumkin stressed that the relations between the Syrian and Russian peoples are rooted since ancient times. He pointed to the role played by the Russian Oriental Institute and the Russian Arabists in clarifying the vision and explaining the common and just positions to combat media disinformation through reports in media outlets as well as through the research works that the Institute publishes.
