Al-Mikdad to Zarif: Fakhrizadeh’s assassination leads to further destabilization and insecurity in the region

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif on Saturday, expressed his deepest condolences, on behalf of the Syrian leadership, government and people, on the martyrdom of the Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Dr. Al-Mikdad condemned this cowardly act, which was perpetrated by Zionist tools against an eminent scientist whose main concern was to develop science and knowledge, including finding a cure for the Coronavirus pandemic.

“This crime cannot be justified because it targets scientists worldwide and because it leads to further destabilization and insecurity in the region and the world.

Al-Mikdad called on the international community to condemn this crime, hold its perpetrators accountable and achieve justice because the continuation of such crimes makes the international community lose its senior scientists and encourages Zionist terrorism and other terrorism sponsors to continue committing such crimes.

The Syrian top diplomat expressed his deepest condolences to Leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolution Ali Khamenei, to President Hassan Rouhani, to Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and to the government and people of Iran. He requested that his condolences be also conveyed to the family of the late scientist.

On his part, Zarif highly appreciated these sincere condolences and expressed his gratitude to President Bashar Al-Assad for his sympathy with the Iranian people and leadership and for supporting Iran in this tragic incident. He stressed that his country will continue to stand by Syria in its war on Terrorism.

He emphasized that the Zionist regime, which stands behind such crimes will not be able to weaken the Iranian people’s determination to progress in scientific achievements and to counter terrorism in the region and the world.
