Al-Mikdad: The Israeli occupation’s crimes in occupied Palestine are inseparable from its attacks in the occupied Syrian Golan
New York (ST): Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad, affirmed that the crimes of the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories are inseparable from its criminal practices in the occupied Syrian Golan, pointing out that the entity’s internal crises pushed its failed leaders to export these crises by launching attacks on the Palestinian people and on the Syrian territories in the consecration of the law of force and the law of the jungle.
Al-Mikdad said in a statement before the ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council, delivered on his behalf by the Permanent Representative of Syria, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh: “Every year, the month of Ramadan witnesses Israeli criminal escalation and aggressive practices against the Palestinian people, which shames humanity. It is unfortunate that the Security Council stands witness to these crimes against humanity without moving a finger due to the immunity and the unlimited support provided by some permanent member states to “Israel”. “
“Syria, once again condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation forces’ attacks on worshipers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and their desecration of the Holy Sanctuary, and it denounces the continued international silence over the occupation’s crimes which aim at igniting the region and pushing it to higher levels of tension and instability”, Al- Mikdad added.
He indicated that the countries supporting “Israel” bear responsibility for this escalation and its repercussions, calling on the United Nations to condemn these violations and work to stop them and ensure that they are not repeated and to work to oblige “Israel”, the occupying power, to implement international legitimacy resolutions related to the Palestinian cause and to enable the Palestinian people to enjoy their legitimate and inalienable rights.
He explained that the repeated political crises within the Israeli occupation entity pushed its failed leaders to export these crises by launching attacks against the Palestinian people, and commit criminal acts against Syria and its people and the people in south Lebanon in a clear dedication to the approach of the law of force and the law of the jungle, as these practices have characterized the actions of the entity since the year 1948 until now. He expressed regret that the question of Palestine and its people, who have been suffering daily for decades from the worst types of crimes, has become a routine matter without the existence of any tangible effort to compel the occupying power to stop its multifaceted aggression and hold it accountable for its actions. It is more unfortunate that some parties equate the killer with the victim.
The Minister pointed out that “Israel”, the occupying power, was and still is the only reason behind the continuation of the tragedy of the Palestinian people.
He reaffirmed that the continuation of the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees “UNRWA” and its support for refugees is indispensable, especially in the light of the continued Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, pointing to the need for UNRWA to continue to carrying out its mandate and to secure the necessary funding for its budget from the United Nations and donations from donor countries adequately and sustainably.
Al-Mikdad stressed that the crimes of the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories are inseparable from its practices in the occupied Syrian Golan since 1967, which is evident in the continuation of Israel’s aggressive policies against our people in the Golan and its practices of the most heinous violations of international law and international humanitarian law, such as its acts detention, killing and displacement and its systematic expansionist settlement policy in the occupied Golan, with the aim of perpetuating the occupation, increasing the number of settlers, imposing demographic chang, stealing the Golan’s natural resources, seizing lands and implementing projects on them which have caused catastrophic effects on the lives of Syrians in the Golan.
Al-Mikdad indicated that the Israeli occupation forces use the occupied Golan as a platform to launch repeated attacks on the Syrian lands, as they targeted again, on the 22nd of last March, the Aleppo International Civil Airport, which made it out of service and caused the cessation of the United Nations air transport services and the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected in the Syrian governorates stricken by the earthquake, because this airport was a main gateway for the delivery of humanitarian aid. He pointed out that the launch of this aggression by “Israel” in conjunction with the visits of UN officials to Syria to follow up efforts to alleviate the difficult humanitarian conditions that the country is going through after years of war and the devastating earthquake is not strange for a terrorist entity whose suspicious foundation coincided with the assassination of international officials and mediators.
Al-Mikdad said that Syria again warns “Israel” and its sponsors of the dangers of these aggressive policies that push the region towards a comprehensive escalation and a new phase of insecurity and instability, calling on the Security Council to abandon its silence and assume its responsibilities urgently to end the Israeli occupation of Arab lands and implement the relevant United Nations resolutions, foremost of which is the Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338, and Resolution 497, which considered “Israel’s” decision to impose its mandate on the Golan Heights null and void and of no legal effect.
Concluding his statement, Al-Mikdad thanked Russia, the President of the Security Council for this month, and its Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for organizing this important session on the situation in the Middle East, indicating that Moscow’s positions have always been on the side of the people suffering from colonialism and injustice.
