Al-Mikdad Thanks China for Supporting Syria’s War on Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad on Saturday thanked China, as a leadership and people, over its support for Syria’s war on terrorism and hailed the Chinese Republic’s principled stances at the Security Council and its use of veto against several western draft resolutions that targeted Syria’s sovereignty, independence and unity.

Al-Mikdad made the remarks during his meeting with China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong and the accompanying delegation.  The meeting dealt with developments relating to the crisis in Syria.

Al-Mikdad highly appreciated the humanitarian assistance China has been providing to Syria to enhance the steadfastness of the Syrian people against the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and its allies against them after the Syrian Arab army succeeded in defeating terrorism in most Syrian areas.

The deputy minister affirmed the need to boost relations between the two countries to the level of strategic relations in accordance with President Bashar Al-Assad’s vision on heading Eastward in building and enhancing ties. Procedures, the two sides can take to achieve this goal, were discussed during the meeting.

On his part, Chen said Syria is the only country for which China used veto six times at the Security Council.

The Chinese official hailed Syria’s achievements in the war on terrorism and commended the Chinese-Syrian cooperation in this respect, stressing that these gains were achieved thanks to the steadfastness and strength of the Syrian people and the wise leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad and President Xi Jinping of China.
