Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad has stressed that Syria stands by Iran in its nuclear file and supports its position in this regard, noting Iran’s great efforts to maintain security and stability in the Gulf region.
He made the remarks after welcoming the Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian, who arrived in Damascus on Saturday for talks with senior Syrian officials on bilateral ties as well as on regional and international developments.
Al-Mikdad said that Abdollahian’s visit is very important as it comes after many local, regional and international developments both in Syria and Iran, affirmng that the two countries continuously hold consulations on all developments.
The situation in Syria need more consultations between the two brotherly countries, particularly in the light of the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territories and the Israeli threats against Iran which both aim at weakening the resistance front, Al-Mikdad added.
On his part, Abdullahian affirmed that President Bashar Al-Assad’s last visit to Iran has been a turning point in the relations between the two countries. He pointed out that Syria and Iran have entered a new stage of distinguished relations in all fields, mainly in economy and trade.
He emphasized that Iran strongly condemns the Zionist aggression that targeted south of Tartous this morning, clarifying that the Zionist entity always tries to undermine security and stability in Syria and through its repeated attacks, it is trying to show Damascus as an unsafe city with the aim of impeding the return of the Syrian refugees.
He reiterated Iran’s firm support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that his country is against any military aggression on Syrian territories.
