Al-Mikdad stresses the Syrian government’s keenness on guaranteeing the safety of UN workers in Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Security and Safety Affairs Gilles Michaud on Thursday discussed issues relating to the work of the United Nations Security and Safety Office in Syria.

Al-Mikdad stressed the need of close cooperation between the UN Security and Safety Office in Syria and the Syrian government parties in order to guarantee the safety of UN workers in the country.

He called on the office to adopt transparency in its work and be committed to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter.

 On  his part, Michaud said the office is committed to cooperation with the Syrian government in the security issues of the UN organizations working in the country. He hailed the facilitations provided by the Syrian government to the office’s activities.

He pointed out that the UN pays attention to the work of the UN security and safety office because of the risks that might face UN workers all over the world.
