Al-Mikdad stresses the need to condemn Israel’s continuous violations in occupied Syrian Golan, Palestine
Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad met on Wednesday with Major General Patrick Gauchat, Head of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) mission concerned with monitoring ceasefire in the Middle East, and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they discussed the tasks assigned to the mission and the cooperation between it and the Syrian side in a number of areas falling within its mandate.
Al-Mikdad spoke about the suffering of the Syrian people in the occupied Golan, as a result of the inhumane practices of the Israeli occupation forces. He also spoke about the continuous violations of international laws by the Israeli forces through their direct targeting of civilians in Syria and Palestine, the latest of which was the Israeli crimes in Nablus and the deliberate bombing of the Kafr Souseh residential neighborhood in Damascus.
Al-Mikdad stressed that these criminal practices of “Israel” contradict the rules of international law, pointing in this regard to the important role of the United Nations in monitoring these Israeli violations and working to condemn, expose and stop them in preparation for ending the Israeli occupation and implementing the relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
In turn, Major General Gauchat reviewed the tasks carried out by the mission in the countries in which its forces and military observers are present in the region.
He pointed to the importance of the armistice commission’s mandate and the need to support its work in the region.
Major General Ghuchat praised cooperation between UNTSO and Syria, represented by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and Defense, referring to the measures taken by the mission to rebuild its headquarters and monitoring points, in a way that serves the implementation of the mandate entrusted to it.
