Al-Mikdad stresses ICRC’s important role in helping Syria face challenges resulted from earthquake

On February 13th, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad met with Mirjana Spoleric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the accompanying delegation.

Mikdad stressed the importance of the humanitarian role played by ICRC in Syria during the years of the crisis, and the importance of strengthening this role with the Syrian government to confront the impacts of the earthquake, in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

He referred to all the facilitations and support provided by the Syrian Arab Republic to relief and rescue teams in various regions of Syria to mitigate the impacts of the earthquake on the affected people.

He called for mobilizing all possible international humanitarian efforts to face the resulting challenges.

In turn, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross expressed her deepest condolences and sympathy to Syria and the families of the victims and those affected by the devastating earthquake.

She confirmed that they, in the International Committee of the Red Cross, will do everything in their power to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the earthquake at the present time, and work to support subsequent recovery efforts.

The meeting was attended by Qusai Al-Dahhak, Director of the International Organizations and Conferences Department, Fabrizio Carboni, Regional Director of the Operations Department for the Near and Middle East in the ICRC, and Christophe Martin, Head of ICRC delegation in Syria.
