Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad, received on Wednesday the credentials of Yasumasa Kimura as representative of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in the Syrian Arab Republic.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Mikdad stressed the importance of the existing cooperation between the Syrian government and UNICEF in various health and educational fields, as well as securing safe drinking water, especially the rehabilitation of schools affected by the terrorist war on Syria and the earthquake disaster, to ensure that children return to education as soon as possible. He also stressed the importance of continuing to implement national vaccination campaigns.
Minister Mikdad also referred to the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures affecting all social segments in Syria, especially children.
In turn, Kimura expressed his happiness to work as a representative of UNICEF in Syria, and thanked the Syrian government for the support and facilities it provides to UNICEF, which helps it implement its programs in Syria, which specifically target women and children who represent the future of Syria.
Kimura stressed that they focus their work on achieving recovery in the educational sector, which in turn will be reflected in the social and economic sectors.
