Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Wednesday received the credentials of Sudipto Mukherjee, the Resident Representative of the UNDP in Syria.
Miqdad affirmed Syria’s great interest in its renewed relationship with the United Nations Development Program. He praised the positive role played by the program to implement projects that will reflect positively on the development process of the Syrian people.
Minister Miqdad gave a brief overview of the catastrophic repercussions of the terrorist war and the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by Western countries on the Syrian people, and the looting of the US occupation of Syria’s wealth on the rates of human development in Syria.
Miqdad said that Security Council Resolution No. 2642 compels obligations on the UN agencies and all parties to implement early recovery projects, support the restoration of electricity to its normal state, and restore schools and hospitals that were destroyed by terrorists.
In turn, Mukherjee presented his program’s projects, activities and priorities in Syria. He stressed the program’s focus on energy and water projects and all other issues related to early recovery.
Mukherjee affirmed the UNDP’s commitment to work and coordinate fully with the Syrian side, represented by various national authorities and ministries, to support Syria in restoring its development achievements in various fields.
