Al-Mikdad receives credentials of new non-resident Ambassador of Sri Lanka

Damascus, (ST) – Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Faisal Al-Mikdad received a copy of the credentials of Kapila Jayaweera as a non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Syrian Arab Republic.

Ambassador Jayaweera expressed his happiness at visiting Syria and being appointed as a non-resident ambassador. He stressed his readiness to work to strengthen bilateral relations at the economic and popular levels between the two countries and to continue cooperation on the international arena.

During the meeting, Minister Al-Mikdad referred to the distinguished friendly relations between the two friendly countries and their cooperation at all levels within the United Nations and various regional organizations. He said that the two countries share views on the situation on the international scene.

The two sides discussed the escalating developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the need to stop the Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank.

They discussed the stand against attempts to displace Palestinians from their homeland, and work to secure unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.
