Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad, received on Wednesday a copy of the credentials of Ambassador Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodrigues, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Syrian Arab Republic.
During the meeting, the depth of the historical relations between the two friendly countries was emphasized, and the importance of continuing to work on developing and strengthening them in all political, economic and health fields.
Minister Mikdad thanked Cuba for its support of Syria, which was expressed by the leadership and people in Cuba during Syria’s confrontation of the repercussions of the natural disaster that befell it. He referred to the impact of the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States of America and the West on Syria, which doubled the repercussions of the earthquake.
Minister Mikdad also renewed Syria’s condemnation of the American blockade imposed on the two countries, which contradicts all humanitarian principles and international laws.
In turn, the Cuban ambassador expressed his deep condolences over the victims of the earthquake, and conveyed the condolences and greetings of the Cuban people to the Syrian people. He reiterated Cuba’s condemnation of the recent Israeli aggression that targeted civilian buildings in Damascus.
He also expressed Cuba’s readiness to provide any humanitarian and medical aid to the Syrian side to face the repercussions of the earthquake.
