Al-Mikdad meets with the Head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Vahid Jalalzadeh

Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad on Wednesday met on with Chairman of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Vahid Jalalzadeh.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed various aspects of bilateral relations, stressing the importance of mutual visits between the parliaments of the two countries, with an emphasis on the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening relations between countries and peoples.

Minister Al-Mikdad stressed the importance of the role of parliaments in defending the values of freedom and justice among peoples. He referred to the negative impact of the immoral and inhuman unilateral coercive sanctions on the lives of the Syrian people, which Western parliaments participate in imposing against the will of the peoples and the provisions of the international law.

Al-Mikdad also highly appreciated Iran’s stances in Support for Syria, mainly providing assistance to the Syrian people, especially in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Syria last February.

For his part, Jalalzadeh stressed the keenness of the Islamic Shura Council to enhance the level of relations with Syria, and to increase the level of parliamentary coordination between the two countries to face common challenges and dangers.

He affirmed his country’s keenness to follow up on the implementation of the agreements reached during President Ibrahim Raisi’s recent visit to Syria.

In a statement to reporters after the meeting, Jalalzadeh affirmed his country’s firm support for Syria and the Syrian people and its rejection of any aggression against the Syrian state and of the continuation of the American and Turkish occupation of parts of of the Syrian territory.

Jalalzadeh indicated that his current visit aims to discuss regional developments, in addition to the bilateral relations between Iran and Syria. He said: During our meetings, we felt the positive and constructive vision of the Syrian government and members of the People’s Assembly, especially regarding the development of bilateral relations and overcoming obstacles.

Jalalzadeh stressed that Iran will continue to support the Syrian people in confronting the economic war and the Western coercive measures imposed on Syria. He stressed the importance of extending the control of the Syrian state over all of its lands to make optimal use of its wealth to serve the Syrian people.
