Al-Mikdad meets Pedersen

Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad on Sunday met with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Syria, Geir Pedersen.

The two sides discussed cooperation between Syria and the UN and the facilities provided by the Syrian government to the UN offices in Syria, including the Office of the Special Envoy.

Minister Al-Mikdad referred to the Syrian government’s efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria and achieve recovery.

Mikdad pointed to the catastrophic impacts of the illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and its Western allies on the Syrian people.

The Minister stressed that the United Nations must assume its responsibilities and cease the Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty through repeated Israeli aggressions against Syrian territory and the illegal presence of American and Turkish forces.

For his part, Pedersen reviewed the contacts he recently made to carry out his mission.

He stressed the need for all relevant parties to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.

The UN envoy underlined the importance of all countries implementing their obligations under the United Nations Charter to restore security and stability throughout the Syrian Arab Republic.
