DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatiates Faisal al-Mikdad has stressed that the victory of the Iraqi army and Hashd Shaabi in Mosul is a turning point in the history of the war on terrorism.
Al-Mikdad made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with the Ambassador of the Arab Department in the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Saad Mohammed Ridha. The meeting focused on ways to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation and coordination in the fight against terrorism.
He said that Iraqis victory is a victory for the Syrians and it will reflect positively on Syria, the region and the entire world, pointing out that Syria stands against all schemes targeting the Iraqi state and backs Iraq’s unity and sovereignty over its entire territory.
Al-Mikdad pointed out that the Syrian and Iraqi people are sharing the joy of the victories being achieved by the Syrian and Iraqi armies in their war on terrorist takfiri organizations and their supporters.
He noted that the Zionist entity is the only beneficiary from the conspiracy hatched against the region aiming to weaken and dividing Syria and Iraq.
The deputy minister said that the US-led coalition’s attacks on the Syrian Arab army and supportive forces aimed at hindering the progress of the army in the Syrian Badia and at fighting the only force which has been combating terrorism. The coalition is also targeting civilians and infrastructure in different areas in Syria claiming innocent lives and causing huge destruction, he added.
He talked about the destructive role of the Turkish regime in what is going on in Syria through opening the Turkish borders for the terrorists to enter the country and through providing all forms of support to the terrorist groups in a bid to achieve its dream in reviving the so-called “Ottoman Empire”.
He renewed Syria’s rejection of the presence of any Turkish forces in Syria or Iraq under any name or pretext.
On his part, Ambassador Ridha stressed that the Syrian and Iraqi people have a common destiny and it is necessary to confront and eliminate the terrorism facing them.
He affirmed the importance of boosting relations between Syria and Iraq in all domains, expressing hope that security and stability will be restored to the entire Syrian territory.
