Al-Mikdad in a joint press conference with Abdollahian: Unified Syrian-Iranian stances can foil western conspiracies

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad and his Iranian Counterpart Hussein Amir Abdollahian held a meeting in Damascus on Wednesday to discuss regional and international developments and means of enhancing Syrian-Iranian relations.

During a press conference following the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad, said “we discussed many issues relating to bilateral relations, which are always moving in a positive direction, and the continuity of implementing the agreements that were signed during the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Syria.

“We also discussed the challenges facing our countries and the continuous aggressive policies of Washington and the West against us, especially using terrorism to achieve their political goals that are well-known to all,” Al-Mikdad said.

He described the steadfastness of the Syrian and Iranian peoples in the face of all challenges and Western conspiracies as heroic, pointing out that this steadfastness indicates that the two peoples’ rallying around their leaderships and confirms the courageous policies that the two countries are adopting on various fields.

He clarified that the unified stance of the two countries against Western conspiracies can foil these conspiracies.

Regarding the American military buildup on the border with Iraq and in the region, Al-Mikdad said that the American policy circles used to work outside the framework of international legitimacy and attack peoples, and what the United States is doing in many parts of the world proves that it does not respect the rules of international law and the UN Charter. He pointed out that the goal of mobilizing troops on the border with Iraq is to pressure the Syrian state to give up its positions, a goal that will never be achieved.

He explained that Iraq has affirmed that it will not allow launching any aggression from its territory against Syria, stressing that Syria appreciates this position and is confident that the brothers in Iraq will not allow the United States or its alleged coalition to influence its relati ons with Syria.

He stressed that Washington is unable to implement its threats and even if it wanted to implement what is being circulated in the media, it will be confronted with the steadfastness of the Syrians, who stood in the face of terrorism and the economic measures imposed by Washington, which represent the other side of terrorism.

Al-Mikdad reiterated that the Turkish occupation forces must completely withdraw from all the lands they occupy in Syria and to stop supporting terrorism.

“Only then it is possible to talk about the return of relations between the two countries to normal,” he stressed

Al-Mikdad went on to say that he and Abdollahian reviewed the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and in the occupied Syrian Golan, and stressed the importance of the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and the people in the Golan in the face of the daily brutal practices of the Israeli occupation.

“We also discussed the most important international developments, most recent of which is the expansion of the BRICS group that reinforces multipolarity ” Al-Mikdad added.

He said that Syria welcomes the accession of Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt to the BRICS group, whose recent summit in South Africa constituted a very important turning point in the transformations that the world is witnessing today in the economic and investment situation and in strengthening multipolarity that has begun to appear to prove that it is the only solution to the problems that face peoples of the world.

For his part, Abdollahian said “we strongly condemn the Israeli attacks on the Syrian territories, most recently on Aleppo International Airport, and affirm that no criminal practice or aggression by the Israeli entity will remain unanswered.

Abdollahian described his talks with Al-Mikdad and Prime Minister Hussein Arnous as good and constructive as they dealt with ways to boost bilateral relations,  agreements between the two countries and international issues of common interest.

“We agreed to hold the meetings of the Iranian-Syrian Joint Committee headed by the Iranian Vice President and Syrian Prime Minister in Tehran soon,” Abdollahian said.

The Iranian minister went on to say that the talks also dealt with the need to continue the fight against terrorism, the American moves to reorganize the terrorist groups, and the illegal presence of the American forces on the Syrian territory under the pretext of combating terrorism.

Abdullahian stressed that Iran will continue to provide support to Syrian leadership, army and people until the situation in the country witnesses stability.

He reiterared that the establishment of Syrian-Turkish relations based on good neighborhood and respect for Syria’s sovereignty will creates a positive environment in the region, noting that the quadilateral meetings between Syria, Russia, Iran and Turkey have put forward positive ideas about respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
